For many survivors and first responders of the 9/11 attacks, the memories of that day are still vivid over fifteen years later. To help individuals still dealing with the scars of that day, a team of well-established tattoo artists is joining together.
Earlier this month, the group of artists began working on a select group of survivors, creating images to help the survivors cover up their scars and continue their healing process. Many of the people being tattooed have had to deal with not only the events of that day but also the feelings associated with survivor’s guilt. Each participant chose something personal to them, with some participants opting for a patriotic symbol, such as an eagle or the words “Never Forget”.
Tattoos are among the many ways people can cope with what they’re going through or have gone through. For example, the semicolon tattoo is a simple design that carries a lot of weight for individuals that have gone through a difficult time in their lives. As long as you’ve carefully thought about your decision, a tattoo may help you with your own healing process.
